As the fight over the stimulus package rages on, there's a growing movement among Senate members of both parties to boost the infrastructure portion of their version of the bill. The goal of increasing highway and Army Corps of Engineer Funds is shared, but Republicans will likely look to pare down other areas of the bill. Some Democrats agree that spending in the package needs to be reined in, while others have initially shown no such inclination.

The House, in its final version, increased money for transit, but shortened from 180 days to 90 days the time period the departments of transportation have to obligate the money they receive.
